Hand to hand combat
Military regulations define hand to hand combat as close combat using different techniques with or without weapon, available equipment and other objects on a short distance, in order to defeat the enemy. Hand to hand combat is not a street fight or a sport.
Hand to hand combat is a fight using an invisible weapon which cannot be detected till it is used and taken away till a person is alive (A. Kadochnikov)
Main components of the system are:
Spirituality is a stepping stone of the Russian system. It determines the whole training, although it is not clearly seen at the first stage of the training process.
Controlling your resources
All sports and fighting systems are designed for a healthy, physically strong and endurable person. However, we get older, can be sick or tired. In a combat situation you are often not able to perform actions that require strong physical power due to a combination of negative factors that affect both your body and mind. What should you do if an enemy is bigger, stronger and quicker? And if there are several attackers?
That is why it is important to have a system that allows you to act effectively by:
We are talking not only about a vital but also a resource saving system of hand to hand combat. Such kind of fight is not a sport tournament when you need to make your best during 3 – 5 minutes to win, without setting your life at risk. In a real life combat situation you will need not only to survive, but also save your resources to fulfill your military assignment.
Most rational and goal-oriented methods of physical influence on the enemy as well as tactical and psychological tricks that improve this influence and sparing yourself makes a Russian hand to hand combat system a part of the survival system.
We act according to the following principle: initially, the enemy has an advantage, i.e. he is stronger and quicker than you.
The laws of mechanics
Together with mental, psychological and physical training, a trainee needs to know a theory, first of all, how the movements work, the laws of mechanics.
From the mechanical point of view, hand to hand combat is a physical phenomenon explaining the mechanical interaction of the objects in equilibrium. The main goal of hand to hand combat is to take the opponents balance.
When we apply the laws of mechanics to the living objects, we need to take into consideration not only their mechanical but biological peculiarities as well, such as, for instance, tiredness, ability to adapt to the changing environment and improve movements and reactions etc.
State of a person in hand to hand combat
It takes years to make a good sword. Master’s hands work on every detail, and there are no insufficient details. The same applies to training. But how can we form a character, make the spirit stronger and master skills?
One of the most important factors that determine a man’s condition in the fight is his spirit. Intention and faith can do wonders; they make you really almighty in extreme situations.
The main feeling that controls all thoughts in the stressful situations is fear. It is not possible to overcome it completely. Only a man who does not realize the danger he faces is not afraid of it. Overcoming fear depends not only (and not that much) on an inmate courage, but on the acquired qualities. One of the ways to defeat fear is to make a habit to react in a certain way no matter how and what you feel.
There are several peculiar ways known from the old times to fight fear. One of them is drugs. In older times it was an amanita (red – white mushroom) tincture, which is still being used by some spetznaz soldiers in difficult situations.
Another known method is to totally focus a fighter’s attention on the action itself. His ability to evaluate will be turned off. That is why he will be able to stay calm, be free in his movements and act decisively and consequently. You can achieve it by training in a slow tempo a numerous times.
Do not forget that a person who does not feel fear may die in a simple situation just because he won’t be able to feel and evaluate a threat in time.
Hand to hand combat training methods. Modeling
A human being is a complex psycho-bio-mechanical system, and as any complex system it is best studied on a model (another object that reproduces main qualities of the original system.) The study can be perceptional, schematic or abstract.
According to the tradition, fighting systems have a number of techniques which you need to learn and use when defend yourself or attack. In a real fighting situation, when complex conditional reflexes are being blocked, the body addresses to unconditional and elementary reflexes, and fighting based on learned techniques is not effective.
Russian hand to hand combat system suggests solving tasks using the main principles based on science. In traditional martial arts, the focus is put on feeling what is happening inside your body, the inner processes. The interaction with the opponent itself (objective processes; the opponent is the object) are described formally, associatively.
In the Russian system the main accent is made on the interaction and the principles explaining it.
Survival is essential in any environment. Considering that every person is unique, everyone should adapt the principles to their needs and create his own system.
There are no ready combinations and pre-determined response to the opponent’s actions. General principles and training methods form a stable complex of physical, spiritual and mental skill on a sub-conscious level.
No one can foresee all situations and give right instructions; everyone will show his competence based on his knowledge mad understanding.
There is no attack without defense; they are two sides of the same coin. This is one of the main principles that stresses that the system is not aggressive. The rule is to avoid a fight if there are other solutions. Only a real threat (attack) gives you the reason and the moral right to use your skills.
The system is a weapon. Owing a weapon implies moral responsibility for using it. That’s why the training itself is closely related to moral upbringing.
